De Beers reports good demand in second sales cycle of 2017

The De Beers Group of Companies has reported “good demand” for rough diamonds in its second sales cycle of the year.

Provisional sales for the company’s second sales cycle of 2017 stood at $545m (£438m), although this was down on its first sales cycle of the year which sold rough diamonds worth $729m (£586m).

Sales were also down on the same cycle last year when the company recorded a total sales value of $617m (£496m).

Bruce Cleaver, CEO at De Beers Group, said: “We continued to see good demand across our product range in the second sales cycle, which was in line with expectations at this time of year.

“Sentiment remains positive heading into the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show this week – an important barometer of trade confidence.”
